Honor America's Heroes on November 11

Veterans Day was originally established to honor Americans who had served in World War I. The national holiday is celebrated on November 11, the anniversary of the day World War I ended in 1918. Today Veterans Day honors veterans of all wars for their patriotism and willingness to serve in the military and sacrifice for our country.

Veterans Day is a great time to visit the monuments and memorials in Washington, DC. Many of the memorials and other attractions around the region host special events in honor of America’s veterans. Please note that Washington DC does not host a parade in honor of Veterans Day. Here is the schedule of events for 2014:

Veterans Day Concert on the National Mall - Special event for this year!
November 11, 2014. This Veterans Day, a free concert and tribute will be held in Washington DC featuring an exceptional lineup of nationally known musicians including Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Dave Grohl, Metallica, John Oliver, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band, and others.The concert is expected to draw a huge crowd to the nation’s capital and will be broadcast live on HBO.

Pay Tribute to America's Heroes in the Nation's Capital

This Veterans Day, a free concert and tribute entitled “A Concert for Valor” will be held on the National Mall in Washington DC. Sponsored by HBO, Starbucks and Chase Bank, the live performance will bring together an exceptional lineup of nationally known musicians to salute America’s veterans and their families. The concert will include Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Dave Grohl, Metallica, John Oliver, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band. Special appearances will also be made by Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.  Additional participants will be announced (see the complete list below) The concert is expected to draw a huge crowd to the nation’s capital and will be broadcast live on HBO (and re-run throughout November) so that the whole country can enjoy a spectacular evening of entertainment.

 

Date and Time: Tuesday, November 11, 2014, 7 p.m.
